The Chesapeake Baysox fell 2-1 to the Harrisburg Senators as Caden Hunter struck out 10 in his Prince George’s Stadium debut. Harrisburg scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice RBI to win Tuesday’s Eastern League matchup in Bowie.
Chesapeake entered the game 18-15 in the current split and 47-54 overall. The Baysox are the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, while the Harrisburg Senators are the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
Caden Hunter records another quality start
Hunter, the reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, allowed six hits and two runs over six innings. One of the runs was earned, and he recorded his second consecutive quality start to begin his Double-A career. The left-handed starter was charged with the loss and now stands at 1-1 on the season.
Hunter opened the seventh inning by allowing two singles before Jeisson Cabrera entered in relief. Cabrera, Tyson Neighbors and Ryan Long combined to keep Chesapeake within one run after Hunter left the game. Cabrera was on the mound when Johnathon Thomas grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Sam Brown from third on a throwing error, but the run was charged to Hunter.
Harrisburg scores the deciding run
The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Kervin Pichardo hit the first pitch he saw for a solo home run. Chesapeake tied the game in the fourth after Thomas Sosa doubled to lead off the inning and Wehiwa Aloy singled up the middle.
Sosa scored when back-to-back Harrisburg throwing errors followed Aloy’s single. The run was charged to Harrisburg starter Isaac Lyon, who earned the win after pitching six and two-thirds innings and allowing five hits, one run, two walks while striking out two.
Harrisburg regained the lead in the seventh and held it through the final two innings. Sandy Gaston retired Chesapeake in order in the ninth inning to earn the save, and Frederick Bencosme’s deep fly ball to right-center was caught for the final out.
Chesapeake Baysox continue six-game series
Hunter was one of three Chesapeake players making a home debut at Prince George’s Stadium. Wehiwa Aloy and Victor Figueroa also played in front of home fans at the stadium for the first time Tuesday.
The Baysox are scheduled to host a doubleheader against the Harrisburg Senators Wednesday. Sebastian Gongora is scheduled to start the first game for Chesapeake against Alex Clemmey, while Christian Herberholz is scheduled to face Blake Brown in the second game. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. at Prince George’s Stadium.

The Chesapeake Baysox received another strong start from Hunter, who matched his previous quality start with 10 strikeouts and six innings of work. Harrisburg, however, turned its seventh-inning opportunity into the deciding run.
Chesapeake’s bullpen kept the Baysox within one run, but Harrisburg’s pitching closed out the victory. The scheduled doubleheader gives Chesapeake its next chance to continue the series against the Senators.
