The Delmarva Shorebirds lost 7-0 to the Hickory Crawdads on Saturday in Salisbury, Maryland. Jake Dykhoff made his Single-A debut and threw a quality start, despite taking the loss. The defeat marked Delmarva’s third straight against Hickory.
Hickory Crawdads Take Early Lead
Pablo Guerrero opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. It was his second homer of the series and third of the season.
Marco Argudin added a solo home run over the left-field wall in the fourth inning, extending Hickory’s lead to 2-0. Curley Martha’s RBI double in the seventh made it 3-0 before the Crawdads scored three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth innings.
Jake Dykhoff Delivers Quality Start
Dykhoff threw 6.1 innings and recorded five strikeouts in his first Single-A appearance for the Shorebirds. He fell to 0-1 with the loss.
Jacob Johnson, Moises Morales and Michael Trausch combined to allow only three baserunners — two hits and a walk — in the shutout. Morales earned the win in relief and improved to 7-2.
The Hickory Crawdads entered the game with a 59-39 overall record and a 25-9 record in the relevant split. The Delmarva Shorebirds entered at 36-65 overall and 13-22 in that split.
Series Finale Scheduled for Sunday
The Shorebirds will face the Crawdads in the series finale Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Brayan Orrantia is scheduled to pitch for Delmarva against Jesus Lafalaise.
