Orioles Rally Past Phillies 6-4 Behind Explosive Seventh Inning
The Baltimore Orioles erased a late two-run deficit with a four-run seventh inning to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 Friday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, opening the weekend series with another impressive comeback victory. Gunnar Henderson delivered the biggest swing of the night, ripping a go-ahead two-run triple, while the Orioles bullpen slammed the door over the final 3.1 innings.
Phillies Strike First
Philadelphia wasted little time getting on the board against Orioles starter Brandon Young. The Phillies used timely hitting and a pair of solo home runs from Trea Turner and J.T. Realmuto to build a 4-2 advantage through six innings.
Young battled through 5.2 innings, allowing four earned runs while keeping Baltimore within striking distance despite facing one of baseball’s better lineups. Although the right-hander surrendered two long balls, he avoided a disastrous inning and handed the game to the bullpen with the Orioles still in contention.
Pete Alonso Keeps Baltimore Close
The Orioles’ offense struggled for much of the evening against Phillies rookie right-hander Andrew Painter, who turned in one of his strongest outings of the season.
Baltimore’s biggest early blow came in the first inning when Pete Alonso launched a two-run home run to left field, giving the Orioles an early answer and accounting for all of Baltimore’s offense through the first six innings.
Painter repeatedly worked out of trouble afterward, retiring hitters efficiently and appearing on his way to a victory before Baltimore finally broke through against the Philadelphia bullpen.
Seventh-Inning Explosion Changes Everything
Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, Baltimore’s offense came alive.
The rally began with Jackson Holliday reaching base before Colton Cowser also got aboard. Christian Encarnacion-Strand then delivered the biggest hit to that point, lacing a game-tying two-run double.
Moments later, after another baserunner reached, Gunnar Henderson ripped a towering triple into the gap, driving home two more runs to give Baltimore a 6-4 lead and send the Camden Yards crowd into a frenzy.
In just a few batters, the Orioles completely flipped the game with four runs against the Phillies bullpen.
Bullpen Finishes the Job
Once Baltimore grabbed the lead, the bullpen made sure it stayed that way.
After Brandon Young exited, Josh Walker and Anthony Nunez bridged the middle innings before Yennier Cano delivered a perfect eighth inning.
Closer Tyler Wells followed with a clean ninth, shutting down Philadelphia to earn the save and complete the Orioles’ comeback victory. Baltimore’s relievers combined to allow almost nothing after Young departed, giving the offense time to produce the decisive rally.

The Orioles continue to show resilience that has been missing at times this season. Rather than folding after Philadelphia’s home runs, Baltimore remained patient, received another quality effort from Brandon Young despite the final line, and trusted its bullpen to keep the game close.
The biggest positive may have been the offense’s ability to capitalize once the Phillies turned the game over to their bullpen. Henderson, Encarnacion-Strand, and Alonso delivered the clutch hits, while the relief corps was outstanding in protecting the lead.
With the victory, Baltimore not only opened an important interleague series with a win but also continued to keep itself firmly in the American League Wild Card race. If the Orioles continue getting timely hitting and this level of bullpen performance, they remain capable of making a serious push during the final two months of the season.
