The Frederick Keys lost 4-1 to the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Friday, July 31, at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium after Kevin Bazzell hit a sixth-inning grand slam. The game was the fourth of a six-game series, with Wilmington taking a 3-1 advantage in the set.
Frederick Keys Take Early Lead
Frederick scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Luis Vasquez delivered an RBI single. The Keys carried a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning as both teams pitched scoreless innings through the early frames.
Stephen Still struck out the side in the top of the second inning and followed with a 1-2-3 third inning. He added three more strikeouts in the fifth to reach 10 through five innings, keeping Wilmington off the scoreboard during his outing.
Kevin Bazzell Grand Slam Lifts Wilmington
The Wilmington Blue Rocks broke through in the top of the sixth inning. Kevin Bazzell hit a grand slam that gave Wilmington a 4-1 lead.
Chandler Marsh pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning for Frederick. After a scoreless eighth inning, Cohen Achen retired the side in order in the top of the ninth, but the Keys went down in order in the bottom half as Wilmington completed the victory.
Frederick Keys Schedule Game Five Saturday
The Frederick Keys are scheduled to host the Wilmington Blue Rocks in game five of the six-game series Saturday, Aug. 1. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
Saturday’s game is scheduled as Cancer Awareness Night, presented by Community Radiology Associates and WellAve Dermatology. A jersey auction benefiting the American Cancer Society and postgame fireworks are also scheduled.
