Baltimore Orioles 8, Detroit Tigers 5: Orioles Mash Three Homers to Open Series With Statement Win
The Baltimore Orioles opened their road series against the Detroit Tigers with one of their most complete offensive performances in weeks, using a balanced attack and timely bullpen work to earn an 8-5 victory Monday night at Comerica Park. The win gave Baltimore a much-needed boost as the club continues to fight to stay in the American League postseason race.
Jackson Holliday led the way with a spectacular four-hit performance, while Coby Mayo, Leody Taveras, and Tyler O’Neill all left the yard. Baltimore collected 12 hits and overcame an uneven outing from starter Kyle Bradish by relying on a shutdown bullpen over the final four innings.
The Orioles wasted little time putting pressure on Detroit starter Keider Montero. Baltimore scored in each of the opening innings, consistently putting runners on base and forcing the Tigers into mistakes. Defensive miscues by Detroit also proved costly, allowing the Orioles to extend rallies and create additional scoring opportunities.
Holliday looked every bit like the franchise cornerstone Baltimore envisioned. The young infielder finished with four hits, scored twice, and was constantly on base, setting the table for the middle of the lineup.
Coby Mayo continued his strong offensive stretch with perhaps the biggest swing of the night. His fifth-inning home run pushed the Orioles’ advantage and gave Baltimore breathing room just as Detroit appeared ready to climb back into the game. Mayo finished with three RBIs and continued to show why he is becoming an important part of Baltimore’s lineup.
Leody Taveras added another spark with a home run of his own before veteran Tyler O’Neill came off the bench and crushed a pinch-hit solo homer in the sixth inning. The three long balls highlighted an Orioles offense that has shown signs of life after struggling for consistency during much of July.
Kyle Bradish did not have his sharpest outing, allowing five runs over 4⅔ innings, but he battled long enough to keep Baltimore in position to win. Detroit threatened several times, cutting into the Orioles’ lead behind RBI production from Hao-Yu Lee and Spencer Torkelson, but the comeback never materialized.
Once Bradish exited, the Orioles’ bullpen took complete control.
Grant Wolfram earned the victory after stabilizing the game, while Yennier Cano and Andrew Kittredge delivered key scoreless innings before Rico Garcia shut the door for his fifth save of the season. The relief corps combined to hold Detroit scoreless the rest of the way, preserving an important road victory.
The victory was significant beyond just one game. Baltimore has spent much of the second half trying to climb back into the American League Wild Card picture, and series against quality opponents such as Detroit carry extra weight with the trade deadline approaching. A productive week could influence how aggressive the Orioles choose to be in the coming days.

Jackson Holliday continues to show why he is one of baseball’s brightest young stars, while Coby Mayo’s development is becoming one of the biggest stories of Baltimore’s season. If the Orioles can continue getting production from those young hitters while the bullpen remains dependable, they still have an opportunity to make things interesting down the stretch.
After several frustrating losses decided by a run or two, Monday’s victory offered something Baltimore has desperately needed: a complete team win.
