Ravens Waive Luke Elzinga and Jared Penning as Veteran Additions Continue

The Baltimore Ravens continued to reshape their 90-man training camp roster on Saturday, waiving punter Luke Elzinga and offensive lineman Jared Penning to make room for the recently signed veteran duo of wide receiver Chris Moore and offensive tackle Hakeem Adeniji. The transactions are part of Baltimore’s ongoing effort to add experienced depth before the start of preseason action.
The roster moves came one day after the Ravens reunited with Moore, a familiar face in Baltimore, while also adding Adeniji, a versatile offensive lineman capable of playing both tackle and guard. Those signings required two openings on the active roster, leading to the release of Elzinga and Penning.
Luke Elzinga’s Opportunity Comes to an End
Elzinga entered training camp hoping to earn a place in Baltimore’s specialist competition. The young punter impressed with his leg strength during offseason workouts but ultimately became a roster casualty as the Ravens prioritized veteran experience at other positions.
Specialists often face difficult odds during camp, particularly when teams need roster flexibility to address depth concerns elsewhere. Although Elzinga’s time in Baltimore was brief, his performance during workouts could generate interest from other NFL teams searching for punting competition later this summer.
Jared Penning Showed Development
Penning, an undrafted offensive lineman out of Northern Iowa, spent time developing within the Ravens organization after joining the club in 2025. He appeared in multiple roles along the offensive line during his college career and earned All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors before signing with Baltimore. Penning spent time on the Ravens’ practice squad before signing a reserve/future contract entering the 2026 offseason.
Despite his versatility and size, the competition along Baltimore’s offensive line became increasingly crowded following Adeniji’s arrival. Penning now will likely seek another opportunity elsewhere if he clears waivers.
Veterans Address Immediate Needs
Baltimore’s decision reflects the organization’s emphasis on adding proven NFL experience during training camp.
Chris Moore returns to the franchise that drafted him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. During his first stint with Baltimore, Moore developed into one of the club’s most dependable special teams contributors while serving as a depth receiver. Since leaving the Ravens, Moore has played for several teams and continued to establish himself as a reliable veteran receiver capable of contributing on offense and special teams.
Adeniji brings valuable versatility after spending time with the Bengals, Vikings, Browns, and Cowboys. Throughout his career he has started games at both tackle positions and guard, giving Baltimore another experienced option as injuries and training camp competition unfold.
What It Means for Baltimore
These moves are unlikely to be the last as the Ravens continue evaluating their roster over the coming weeks. Baltimore has consistently used training camp to identify experienced veterans who can strengthen depth while also giving younger players opportunities to prove themselves.
Moore immediately improves the competition at wide receiver and on special teams, while Adeniji provides insurance across multiple offensive line positions. Meanwhile, Elzinga and Penning become the latest young players searching for their next NFL opportunity.
