Ravens Trade for Linebacker Roquan Smith

The Baltimore Ravens have traded a second and fifth-round pick in next years draft to the Chicago Bears in exchange for inside linebacker Roquan Smith. Smith is in the last year of his contract and after contract talks with the Bears stalled, the Bears worked to move the 2018 first round pick.

Drafted out of Georgia, Smith has become one of the best inside linebackers in the NFL. A two-time All-Pro, Smith has 607 career tackles, 16.5 sacks, and seven interceptions. In 2022 Smith currently leads the NFL in tackles with 83 and only Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner has more tackles then Smith over the last five seasons.

The Ravens were desperate to make a move ahead of tomorrows trade deadline. While many have called for a trade to bring a receiver to Baltimore. The inside linebacker position has also become a huge need on this team. With Josh Bynes currently dealing with an injury and his health status uncertain. The Ravens haven’t had the production from the middle linebacker spot that they would have liked thus far in 2022. Smith will had a jolt to a Ravens defense that currently ranks 24th in the NFL, but has been improving week to week.
