University of Maryland Eastern Shore Women’s Volleyball Loses to Maryland in Three Sets

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women’s volleyball team faced a challenging match on Sept. 6, 2026, falling to the University of Maryland Terps in straight sets at College Park, Md. The loss marked a hard-fought conclusion to their weekend of play.

The Hawks fell by set scores of 15-25, 16-25 and 16-25. UMES held an early advantage in the opening set before Maryland pulled ahead for a 25-15 win. After dropping the second set, the Hawks battled in the third and remained within two points at 14-12 before the Terrapins created separation to close out the match.

Shayla Henry Leads University of Maryland Eastern Shore Women’s Volleyball

Shayla Henry led UMES with seven kills while hitting .286. Karielys Melendez added six kills, five digs and a service ace, while Jayda Hutchins finished with 13 assists and five digs.

Arianna Warner Torres recorded a team-high nine digs, while Dynasty Andrews led the Hawks at the net with five total blocks.

Maryland Holds Hitting Advantage

Maryland finished with a .319 hitting percentage compared with .048 for UMES. The Hawks return to action next weekend.
