Yankees pound O’s, 11-4

Baltimore — The New York Yankees pounded Orioles pitching en route to an 11-4 win Tuesday night.

The Yankees scored three runs in the first, third and fifth innings, jumping out to a 9-0 lead.

Orioles starter David Hess (L. 1-6) allowed all nine of those runs, all earned, giving up three home runs along the way.

Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez got things started early, with a three-run blast off Hess in the top of the 1st.

In the top of the 3rd, Yankees tight fielder Clint Frazier hit the first of his two home runs on the night, a two-run shot making the score 6-0.

Frazier struck again in the 5th, blasting a three-run homer to center field, effectively putting hr game away.

The only real bright spot for the Orioles offense came in the bottom of the 5th when Orioles centerfielder Stevie Wilkerson lifted a three-run homer off Yankees starter Domingo German (W, 9-1).

New York, though, would quell any hopes of a comeback, plating two runs in the top of the 6th off right-hander Josh Lucas.

Orioles second baseman Hanser Alberto’s RBI ground out n the bottom of the 6th rounded out the scoring on the evening.

Baltimore falls to 15-33 on the season.

The two teams will square off again tomorrow evening in game three of the four-game series.

Orioles right-hander Dan Straily (1-3, 8.51) will square off against veteran Yankees left-hander C.C. Sabathia (2-1, 2.97).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
