Wizards Fall to Suns 125-112 in Game One in the Bubble

Rui Hachimura and the Washington Wizards opened their bubble season with a meeting against the Devin Booker led Pheonix Suns in Orlando today. With All Stars John Wall and Bradley Beal not playing the Wizards went with a guard heavy lineup that included Shabazz Napier, Isaac Bonga and Troy Brown Jr with Hachimura and Thomas Bryant rounding out the PF and Center positions.

Hachimura led the way for the Wizards with a team leading 21 points and 8 rebounds on 8-15 from the field, with help coming off the bench from Jerome Robinson and Ish Smith, who scored 20 and 17 points, respectively. This wasn’t enough to keep up with the offensive power of the Suns, as Devin Booker posted a 27-5-4 stat line and Deandre Ayton scored 24 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 2-3 from 3 pt range, improving on his long range shooting.

The Wizards would go on to lose game one 125-112, dropping their bubble record to 0-1 as the 9 seed in the East trying to get their foot in the door of the playoffs, trailing the Brooklyn Nets by 6 games for the last spot in the postseason. The Wizards next game will be against the aforementioned Nets, as they will face off this Sunday, August 2nd at 2 pm.
