Washington starts NHL preseason action with trip to Boston Sunday

9-16  Washington Capitals at Boston Bruins   Preseason  Game 1

Time:  1pm at TD Garden in Boston, Mass.

TV: NBC Washington

Radio: Caps radio 24/7

Washington Capitals Hockey is back! The Capitals are still hungry and looking to go back to back. In tomorrow preseason game look for some new faces. We will see potential back up goaltender candidate Pheonix Copley get the start and play half of the game. We will also see his net minding partner from last season in Hershey, Vitek Vanecek get the second half of the game to close out the preseason opener.

You won’t see a lot from Ovechkin, Backstrom, Oshie,  Kuznetsov and Carlson this preseason because the Capitals will be giving more ice time for younger players like Nathan Walker, Shane Gersich, Nick Dowd and Maddison Bowey to figure out where they belong. There is essentially one spot to battle for in Washington. The rest will be sent to Hershey, South Carolina, or their junior teams for more time on ice. That spot the Caps are looking to fill is the fourth line center role. However, the Caps could still look to move Chandler Stephenson from the third line wing, and put him on the fourth line center, opening up a winger role for the Capitals.

Players headed to Boston for the Capitals are as follows:
