Washington Nationals begin their fire sale
Well Washington Nationals fans, I hope you enjoyed 2019. Welcome to pain. For all the new fans that weren’t around before 2012, you’ll now get a taste of what we went through at the RFK days and the early opening of the new ballpark.
Max Scherzer and Trea Turner are pretty much 99% traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers as of this writing. That wasn’t all the Nats did. In other news, Starlin Castro is suspended for 30 days and the Nats will release him right after the suspension for domestic violence charges. Not too big a loss compared to Scherzer and Turner.
And yet that still wasn’t all. Kyle Schwarber got traded to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for right handed pitching prospect Aldo Ramirez. Schwarber hit 16 home runs in the month of June before injuring his hamstring.
Meanwhile the Dodgers are closing in on acquiring the services of Trea Turner and Max Scherzer to chase their second straight World Series title. They will be primed to make a deep run in October.
In return the Nats will get four prospects. That list includes catcher Keibert Ruiz and right hander Josiah Gray. They also acquire outfielder Donovan Casey and right handed pitcher Gerardo Carrillo.
After realizing their biggest goal nearly two short years ago, the party is now over. It is time to rebuild for the next one.
