Washington Heads Into Carolina In Need Of A Win

Washington had a gutsy performance last Sunday at home shading Tampa. But this week features most of Carolina’s old staff going up against their replacements. Last season Washington lost to Carolina at home but they look to return the favor in Carolina.

Washington offense

The offense took control over the Tampa game last week with that 10 minute drive to close out the game. This week they face a stingy Carolina defense that has only given up 30 points once this season.

Heinicke will be playing against his former team as a starter for the first time. Last season he came in relief of Haskins late against Carolina and put up 137 yards and one touchdown in the second half of that game.

McLaurin and Gibson will need to have big games to get a win today. Both players made big plays down the stretch last week and we will likely need to see the same today.

Defense has momentum

The defense had their best showing last week against a future HOF quarterback. They were able to pick off Brady twice and only held him to 220 yards passing, a season low. If John Allen can keep up the pressure against Cam Newton I expect a big win today.

Cam Newton will start for Carolina today. He hasn’t started a game all season and saw his first action back in Carolina last week, mostly in the red-zone. It is important to remember he isn’t the sam guy he was last time he was in Carolina. I don’t think he will have a large impact in the game if Washington can keep him from running the ball.

Predictions

I expect Washington defense to pickup where the left off last week. They should be able to shut down an old Cam Newton and hopefully keep the weapons around him at bay.

Offense will continue to run the ball and control the game. After what they did last week against a very good run defense in Tampa I don’t expect them to go away from the run.

Washington wins 24-17
