Washington Capitals Beat New York Rangers 4-2
The Washington Capitals got off to a great start with their home-and-home against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
The Capitals started out the game playing their best hockey of the year scoring four goals in the first period.TJ Oshie started the scoring the first goal of the game after sinking in a shot from a Nicklas Backstrom pass.
Moments later in the first Matt Niskanen showed us defensemen can dangle to after deaking out rookie goalie Alexander Georgiev making it a 2-0 game.
Later that period the Capitals went on a power play, and Alex Ovechkin sniped in his spot for his 45 goal of the season for a 3-0 Capitals lead. Later with a minute left in the period Evgeny Kuznetsov had a slam dunk goal while short handed on a two on one goal with a beautiful assist from Alex Chaisson.
Later in the second it looked like the Capitals took their foot off the gas pedal. It was a special moment later in the period when Jimmy Vesey made a pass to Lias Anderson who scored on goalie Philipp Grubauer for his first NHL goal in his first NHL game.
The Capitals still looked like an unmotivated team in the third, and Matts Zuccarello scores on Grubauer to make it a 4-2 game, but the Capitals still came out with a victory.
First star of the game goes to Philipp Grubauer who continued to play well stoping 28 shots. He played the puck well, had great bound control and continued to look confident in net. Overall the Capitals looked like a playoff team in the first period. If they play like the way they did in the first period they could make a deep playoff run.
