The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women’s bowling team was picked to finish second in the 2026-27 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preseason poll, while sophomore Mariane Almeida earned a spot on the Preseason All-Conference Team.
The poll was announced Sept. 30 in Norfolk, Virginia, following a vote by the MEAC’s head bowling coaches and sports information directors. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore received 67 points, one point ahead of the University of Alabama Birmingham, which was selected third with 66 points.
Mariane Almeida Named to Preseason All-Conference Team
Almeida averaged 18.17 points per frame last season. She scored 318 strikes on 822 attempts and converted 60.7% of her spare opportunities.
Almeida was one of six bowlers selected to the preseason All-Conference Team. The group also included Victorya White of North Carolina A&T State, Amina Hall, Ryan Starke and Hannah Perry of Delaware State, and Soraya Brinson of Howard.
North Carolina A&T State Selected as Preseason Favorite
North Carolina A&T State, the 2025-26 MEAC champion, was selected as the preseason favorite. The Aggies received 11 first-place votes and 88 points, while White was named Preseason Bowler of the Year.
Delaware State was selected fourth with 62 points, followed by Morgan State with 45 points. Coppin State and Howard tied for sixth with 27 points apiece, and Norfolk State finished eighth with 14 points.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women’s bowling team received the second-highest point total in the MEAC preseason poll. Almeida’s selection gives the program a representative on the league’s preseason All-Conference Team.
