The University of Maryland Eastern Shore named Alex Murphy an assistant coach for its track and field and cross country programs on Sept. 22, 2026. Murphy will work with the men’s and women’s distance and cross country programs.
Murphy’s responsibilities include training, athlete development, competitive preparation and recruiting at the NCAA Division I level. He will be based with the programs in Princess Anne, Maryland.
Alex Murphy Joins University of Maryland Eastern Shore Staff
Murphy spent the 2025-26 academic year as a graduate assistant at The Catholic University of America. He supported the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs through coaching, recruiting, athlete development and day-to-day program operations.
At The Catholic University of America, Murphy worked with both cross country and track and field. He will now focus on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s men’s and women’s distance and cross country programs.
Murphy’s Collegiate Background
Murphy competed in cross country and track and field at George Mason University from 2023-25 after starting his collegiate career at American University from 2021-23. He was a three-time NCAA Regional Cross Country Championship competitor.
Murphy earned three Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selections and two Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selections. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication from George Mason University in 2025 and is pursuing a Master of Science in Management and Leadership from The Catholic University of America.
