University of Maryland, Baltimore County men’s soccer defeated Howard 2-0 on Sept. 15, 2026, at Retriever Soccer Park. The Retrievers scored twice in the first half to end a two-game skid and improve to 3-2-1 overall and 3-1 at home this season.
UMBC Scores Twice Before Halftime
UMBC took control early, putting pressure on Howard’s defense to set up the first goal. Gunder Miller opened the scoring in the 30th minute when he volleyed a ball into the far post after a long throw-in and a failed Howard clearance. The goal was Miller’s second of the season.
With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, Abdi Bahur created a chance along the end line. The ball deflected off the crossbar and onto the head of freshman Jack Reilly, who scored his first goal as a Retriever.
Reilly, a College Park, Maryland, native, played 37 minutes. Howard goalkeeper Liam Keiller stopped additional first-half attempts by Reilly and Adamo Pantaleo.
Retrievers Protect Lead After Red Card
UMBC outshot Howard 25-5 and put seven shots on goal. Howard did not record a shot on target.
UMBC played the final 20 minutes with 10 players after Bryson Clarke received a red card for stopping a clear scoring chance from behind. Joe Pollard earned a clean sheet without needing to make a save.
UMBC Set to Host William & Mary
UMBC is scheduled to host William & Mary at Retriever Soccer Park on Sept. 19, 2026, at 7 p.m. The match is designated as Youth Night.
The victory extended UMBC’s unbeaten run against Howard to 14 consecutive matches dating to 2002. The Retrievers compete in the America East Conference.
