“Too Sweet” No.2 Maryland advances to Sweet Sixteen, takeaways from the first two rounds.

It’s just too sweet Maryland is headed back to the Sweet 16 for the 20th time in school history. The Terrapins beat Arizona, 77-64 on Sunday.

In the first two rounds of the tourney Maryland has shown Grit, and they are peaking at the right time “Just really, really special, to get back to a Sweet 16, this journey, I’m happy for everybody in our program, our staff, these players.” Coach frese stated in the post game Sunday.

If you read my preview against Arizona, Maryland needed all hands on deck.

The Keys to Victory!

Can someone explain to me what happened in the first quarter?

Maryland and Arizona did not do a good job of taking care of the ball. For the first ten minutes of the game, it looked ugly. Offensively, Maryland did the little things. They held Arizona to 8 points in the first ten minutes of the game. Shyanne Sellers went down early with two fouls, and from that moment Maryland on both sides of the ball looked totally different. Seller’s absence at the most critical time of the game left a void that allowed Arizona to score 25 points in the second quarter.

Arizona and Holy Cross are two different animals!

Holy Cross is no big ten opponents, and seeing how Maryland played both teams. 1.) Holy Cross had no answers offensively for Maryland while Arizona responded in the 2nd quarter with taking advantage of the holes in the defense. Maryland in the third responded well, seeing how the first showed the matchups are truly important. Holy Crosses’ guard play was too small, and Arizona, who has the most experience roster round the nation, looked like that 2021 team.

Diamond Miller once again proved she is a WNBA Top 4 Draft Pick

Diamond Miller’s play in the third quarter was shot in the arm. Maryland needed her at a time when everything was falling into Arizona’s hands. Miller scored 13 points in the third quarter. Going into the fourth, the wildcats had no answers for the terps. Diamond Miller is a cog in the engine for this Maryland team, and Sunday night was just a sample of what is coming next for Notre Dame.
