The Washington Commanders dominated the Dallas Cowboys
The Commanders beat the Cowboys 26-6 on Sunday. The Commanders played its best game on Sunday. The only problem is it was a meaningless game. If the Commanders had this type of game in the previous four games they would be going to the playoffs. The offense of the Commanders had an alright game. Sam Howell showed that he could be an option at quarterback next year for the Commanders.
Offense
Sam Howell played well on Sunday. He made throws that we have not seen from the quarterback position all season. Howell went 11 for 19 for 169 yards and a touchdown passing Sunday. On the ground he added 35 rushing yards and a touchdown. I would have liked to see more passes thrown by Howell on Sunday, but when you run the ball 41 times it is tough to throw more. I am not sure why the Commanders ran the ball 41 times in a meaningless game and is another reason Scott Turner should be fired.
The offensive line of the Commanders had a good game Sunday. They went against the Cowboys number ones for most of the game. They only gave up three sacks all game, which was an improvement from the last game against the Cowboys. The Commanders also had 151 rushing yards against a good Cowboys front seven. They also had two backups playing all game Sunday, which might become starters next year.
Defense
The Commanders defense played its best game Sunday. They only gave up 182 total yards. The defense was also playing without four key players Sunday as well. The most disappointing thing is where was this effort last week? The Commanders needed to win the last two game and would have been in the playoffs. If they played like this last week they would be in the playoffs. Instead they are going home and are watching from the couch like the rest of us.
Kendall Fuller had another great game Sunday. He had his second pick six of the season and played tight coverage all game. After starting the season bad Fuller has really stepped his game up and now the Commanders just need to find a good slot corner.
Finally for the defensive line. The Commanders only had one sack on Sunday, but seemed to get some decent pressure on Dak. The defense also had three tackles for a loss and did not allow Dallas to run the ball. The Cowboys only had 64 rushing yards. They also had a terrible 2.4 yards per carry on Sunday. The Commanders also did this without its best run stopper Jon Allen. This shows the Commanders have some decent depth up front, but I still would like them to resign Daron Payne this offseason.
Wrap Up
Now the offseason begins for the Commanders. They will need to figure out what they want to do at the quarterback position the next couple of months. They will also need to resign players and sign new free agents as well. This will be another busy offseason for the Commanders as usual. Also this year may come with the sale of the team and a new owner I hope.
