The Polish Hammer Nails It Home. Washington Wizards Win In Overtime Against The Brooklyn Nets 119-113

It was Polish night in D.C. and Marcin Gortat was definitely a highlight putting up 16 points and 13 rebounds.  The Brooklyn Nets came out after the half determined not to lose and put up big numbers in the 3rd.  They forced the game into overtime but the Wizards were able to regain the lead and win the game.

STATS:

WASHINGTON WIZARDS:  Beal:  24pts, 4r, 6a, 3stl; Wall:  23pts, 3r, 16a, 2stl;  Oubre:  17pts, 3r, 1a, 1stl;  Gortat:  16pts, 13r, 2a, 1stl, 1b.

BROOKLYN NETS:  Hollis-Jefferson: 22pts, 4r, 7a; Allen: 16pts, 8r, 1a; Carroll: 13pts, 10r, 3a, 2stl; Crabbe:  13pts, 3r, 2a, 1stl.

NOTABLES:

Satoransky and Beal were active early in the game.  Wall blocked some incredible shots.  He had 16 assists for the game.  Washington had an early, and big lead, 33-18 at the end of the 1st.  Beal headed to the locker room at the beginning of the 2nd quarter but played the remainder of the game so hopefully this isn’t a potentially reoccurring injury issue.  We also got a highlight of Oubre with the Supreme shoes.  I’m really pushing hard for a Washington shoe cam.

Mahinmi came in the 2nd.  He’s been looking really good. It looks like the Wizards are looking to trade either Gortat or Mahinmi.  It’d be nice to keep both as potential injury is a reality of professional sports, especially if they make it further in the playoffs, but minutes and touches are important to guys so we’ll have to see how this plays out.

Oubre was shooting well and his box score shows that.  Morris was good defensively and Scott made a nice play; every man seems to contribute.  The Wizards are pretty well put together as a team.  Making the playoffs should not be an issue this season.

The Nets were really not in this game at all until the 3rd.  Their coach must have torn into them at the half because they started playing like someone was getting cut directly after the game and wouldn’t be allowed on the flight home.  They outscored the Wizards 35-24 in the 3rd.  Quincy Acy, who I like and remember from when he was drafted by the Raptors, put up a few big plays.  He also took a bit of a flop against his own man which was hysterical.  Someone’s been watching Chris Paul film.

Hollis-Jefferson also looked good for the Nets, Crabbe made some nice shots and Carroll, who I like from his Atlanta days, also looked good.  Despite Acy putting up the tying shot and forcing overtime, the Wizards were able to pull it together and win the game.

NEXT UP:  Milwaukee Bucks Monday, January 15 at 2p.m. EST.  Giannis is going to come with that fire, I hope the Wizards are prepared.
