The Future of Bullet Club
Anyone that watched the New Japan Pro Wrestling G1 Special knows that Bullet Club is not fine…
A new rogue faction emerged with Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and their father legend Haku. The group attacked Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks during the finale of the NJPW G1 Special. After this initial attack, the new faction all revealed new shirts saying “BC Firing Squad.”
Then more members of the existing Bullet Club came to the defense of Omega and the Bucks. Hangman Page, Marty Scrull, Yujiro Takahashi, and Chase Owens all came to help but were quickly attacked by the Firing Squad.
Finally, Cody came back down the ramp after a grueling match with Kenny Omega. Then, Cody was handed a chair and looked as if he was about to put the proverbial nail in the coffin on the existing Bullet Club. Instead, Cody quickly turned and hit Tama Tonga. Haku stopped the assault and the Firing Squad stomped out Cody as well.
The good news is that Cody and Kenny Omega seem to have put their differences aside and have found a new unity under the Bullet Club Elite flag. The bad news is that this new faction poses a serious threat to the health and well being of the remaining members of Bullet Club.
Here is the major question. Is this the beginning of us as fans seeing Kenny, Cody, and The Young Bucks making an exit for WWE? In my opinion, yes. If I have learned anything from watching NJPW it’s that the storylines are long and they gradually build up to an epic ending.
One of the biggest knocks against these guys has been lack of storytelling. Over the last year, I’ve been paying close attention to The Young Bucks weekly show on Youtube called “Being The Elite.” In that show, the storylines have grown to the point they are starting to incorporate into the stories shown on TV in the NJPW ring.
One small example is how in episode 109 titled “Memorial,” Nick Jackson of the Bucks has a premonition. His eyes roll back into his head and say “Something bad is gonna happen”. That same week the Firing Squad attacks. Then in episode 110 entitled “Family Dinner,” they show a close up of Nick just before the attack and his eyes are rolling into the back of his head while he is on the entrance ramp.
A civil war, if you will, has broken out. With the new WWE deal with FOX rumors have been flying around. WWE could now pay Cody, Kenny, and The Young Bucks big money contracts to come over to the brand. The future of the Bullet Club is uncertain at this point.
WWE has a history of taking a talent and controlling every aspect of the character. This would lead fans to fear that the Bullet Club’s creative control of their characters in the hands of WWE writing staff.
I for one look at it this way, these guys have been around for a while. They have accomplished so much more than anyone else ever has on the independent scene. Think about this. All four of these guys have the top selling t-shirts at Hot Topic consistently. That’s unheard of! For them to turn down big money would mean they truly have no interest in coming to “The Fed”. Personally, I think they will make the transition, and achieve great success.
