Terps Football Lands Three Players From Portal in Three Days

On Monday, the Terps landed their first portal commitment of the 2024 class from Jalen Huskey, who was an all conference CB at Bowling Green. On Wednesday night, the Terps added two more key transfers from the portal. To start things off Wednesday, the Terps added former NC State QB MJ Morris who will be arriving in College Park as a redshirt sophomore. And to finish thighs off, the Terps added offensive lineman Josh Kaltenberger from Purdue.

Huskey is a kid that grew up in the DMV. He came out of Quince Orchard high school in Montgomery County before heading to Bowling Green. At Bowling Green as a sophomore, he was an All-MAC cornerback and totaled 52 tackles, six pass deflections, and four interceptions on the season, with one coming against Michigan. Huskey being a local guy, he had known about the Terps culture and program from the outside but never got to see it from the inside. After his official visit over the weekend, Huskey was able to see what it is like being a Terp from the inside and decided to commit to the Terps the next day. Huskey will look to bolster a secondary that is losing many key pieces this off-season to the portal and the NFL Draft.

Morris is a 6-foot-2 quarterback that is very athletic and has a strong arm to him as well. In two seasons for the Wolfpack, Morris played in nine games totaling 1,367 passing yards with a 57.8% completion percentage along with 14 touchdowns and six interceptions. Morris also totaled 103 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground. Coming out of high school, Morris was a three star recruit out of Georgia. Morris was set to be the starter for NC State this season but decided to sit and develop further after four games to help the program. However after the regular season, the Wolfpack staff decided to tell Morris they were going in a different direction at QB so Morris hit the portal. Morris adds to a QB room that is looking to replace the Big Ten’s all time leader in passing yards and the Qb that owns every QB record book at Maryland in Taulia Tagovailoa. Morris will battle Bill Edwards and Cam Edge for the starting spot at QB for the 2024 season given no one leaves in the portal.

Kaltenberger will look to fill in the starting center spot for the Terps, a spot that was rotated by two seniors who are graduating after this season in Eric Harris and Mike Purcell. At Purdue, Kaltenberger was mainly a center, however due to injuries he moved out to offensive tackle as well. His versatility can be a large benefit for the Terps especially if they land some more offensive lineman that can play center in the portal. Coming out of Pennsylvania in high school, Kaltenberger was a three star  recruit and the eight best center of the 2020 class. Kaltenberger is also a three time academic All-Big Ten selection showing he is a true student athlete.

The Terps are not done on the recruiting trail and still have many more targets they will look to land to bolster the roster and get ready for the 2024 season. National Signing day is next Wednesday, December 20th for the early signing period which is when many of the committed high school recruits and committed portal targets will sign.
