Stevenson University women’s soccer battled back twice from one-goal deficits but ultimately fell 3-2 to Shenandoah University on Wednesday evening, Sept. 16, at Owings Mills East in Owings Mills, Md.
Stevenson Answers Shenandoah’s Early Lead
Shenandoah took an early lead in the fourth minute as Lauren Duffy scored off an assist from McKenna Newcome. Stevenson goalkeeper Isabella Serano made three saves during the opening nine minutes to keep the Mustangs within one.
Stevenson tied the match in the 29th minute when Colleen Fanning scored with an assist from Courtney Keehner. Serano made another save late in the opening half, and the teams went into halftime tied 1-1.
Shenandoah Scores Decisive Goal
Shenandoah regained the lead in the 57th minute when Ellie Ajello scored with an assist from Lucy Greenstein. Serano made two additional saves before Stevenson responded once again.
In the 72nd minute, Ashley Bowman assisted Kailyn Beall on the equalizing goal, tying the score 2-2. Shenandoah answered five minutes later with the eventual game-winner, scoring in the 77th minute.
Karly Sheahan gave Stevenson a late chance with a shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but Shenandoah preserved its lead with the save. Shenandoah finished with 11 shots on goal, while Stevenson recorded three.
Stevenson University Women’s Soccer Returns Saturday
Stevenson University women’s soccer will return to action Saturday at Lebanon Valley College. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
