St. Mary’s College of Maryland Men’s Cross Country Places 29th at Dan Shenk Invitational

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s cross country team placed 29th out of 44 teams in the 8,000-meter race at the Dan Shenk Invitational in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, with a total of 844 points.

Connor Walsh led the Seahawks with a 132nd-place finish in 26:52.3, according to the primary results listing. Brandon Smoot was next, finishing 162nd in 27:14.2.

Kal Yewlsew and Rey Vilmenay ran back-to-back for St. Mary’s, finishing 285th and 286th with times of 28:40.5 and 28:40.8, respectively. Owen Swisdak rounded out the top five with a 344th-place finish in 29:40.9.

However, the official recap lists a separate “St. Mary’s Top Five Finishers” section that includes Connor Welsh in 132nd place with a time of 23:18.1, conflicting with the earlier listing for Connor Walsh. This discrepancy should be treated with caution until clarified.

Shippensburg won the team competition with 70 points, followed by Johns Hopkins with 82 points, and St. Bonaventure with 98 points.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland is scheduled to compete next at the United East Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

St. Mary’s men’s cross country finished 29th in a strong 44-team field. Connor Walsh was listed as the Seahawks’ top finisher in the primary results, but due to conflicting information including Connor Welsh with a notably different time and the same placement, the results should be viewed with caution until the discrepancy is resolved.
