Southern Maryland Blue Crabs’ Ian Kahaloa Named Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs starting pitcher Ian Kahaloa was named Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 18-23 after throwing six scoreless innings at Hagerstown on August 22. Kahaloa allowed three hits and two walks while striking out seven against the Flying Boxcars.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Flying Boxcars 5-3, giving Kahaloa his ninth win of the season. His seven strikeouts raised his season total to 97 and helped the Blue Crabs secure consecutive Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week awards.

Ian Kahaloa’s Award-Winning Start

Kahaloa completed six scoreless innings in his start at Hagerstown. He limited the Flying Boxcars to three hits and two walks while recording seven strikeouts.

The outing also moved Kahaloa into fourth place on the Southern Maryland franchise innings-pitched list. He passed Brian Grening after reaching 460.0 innings with the Blue Crabs.

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Earn Back-to-Back Pitching Honors

Kahaloa became the third Southern Maryland pitcher and fourth player to receive a weekly award this season. He joined Connor Overton, Isaac Fix and Danny Bautista Jr. among the team’s honorees.

Overton received the Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week award the previous week. Kahaloa’s honor gave the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs consecutive weekly pitching awards.

Kahaloa’s Season Context

Through 21 starts, Kahaloa had a 9-7 record with a 4.50 ERA, ranking third in ERA among qualifiers in the Atlantic League. His season strikeout total stood at 97 after the Hagerstown start.

Kahaloa leads the circuit with 1.93 walks allowed per nine innings and ranks second with a 1.19 WHIP, the best mark among active pitchers.

Kahaloa is in his eighth professional season and fourth with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The Ewa Beach, Hawaii, native was a 2015 fifth-round draft selection of the Cincinnati Reds and previously led the Atlantic League with 138 strikeouts in 2024. He attended Campbell High School.
