South Carolina Stingrays Sign Goaltender Ryan Kenny After .929 SPHL Rookie Save Percentage

The South Carolina Stingrays signed goaltender Ryan Kenny, a 27-year-old netminder who spent most of the past four seasons with the SPHL’s Fayetteville Marksmen.

Kenny joins the ECHL club after starting one game for Fayetteville this season. He stopped 16 of 19 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs on Oct. 17.

Ryan Kenny Posted Strong Fayetteville Numbers

Kenny has a 49-29-15 record, a 2.56 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage across the past four seasons with the Fayetteville Marksmen. He went 8-9-3 with a 2.44 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage for Fayetteville last season.

During his 2023-24 rookie season, Kenny recorded the best save percentage in the SPHL at .929 and earned a spot on the SPHL All-Rookie Team. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound goaltender is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Kenny Has Previous ECHL Experience

Kenny has also appeared in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays, Reading Royals, Atlanta Gladiators and Indy Fuel. In his ECHL career, Kenny holds a 1-2-2 record with a 3.95 goals-against average and an .848 save percentage.

He made one start for the Stingrays during the 2024-25 season on Dec. 29 in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Savannah Ghost Pirates.

The South Carolina Stingrays are affiliates of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and AHL’s Hershey Bears.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

Kenny’s Fayetteville record and save percentage provide the clearest context for the signing. His .922 save percentage across four seasons with the Marksmen, along with the .929 mark from his 2023-24 rookie campaign, gives the South Carolina Stingrays a goaltender with substantial SPHL experience.

His previous ECHL appearances also include a start for South Carolina during the 2024-25 season. The signing adds Kenny to the Stingrays’ goaltending options without establishing a specific role.
