Smackdown Live Recap 7/24/18
As WWE SmackDown Live opens tonight with a limousine pulling up to the building. The WWE SmackDown Live Universe waits in suspense. Seems like this could be the McMahon family, but out steps The Miz, Maryse, and baby Monroe Sky.
Next Randy Orton makes his way to the ring. We see a replay of last weeks United States Championship rematch. Randy Orton pulled Jeff Hardy out of the ring. This caused Hardy to lose his rematch.
Randy states he attacked Hardy because he has worked harder than anyone. Orton feels like no one respects him and his work. Randy takes a shot at The Bullet Club. Stating Bullet Club stole a “sweet hand gesture”. Orton came into WWE as the legend killer and now is the legend. Randy goes on to say he will write the final chapter in the book of Hardy. He will end Hardy.
Rusev vs Andrade “Cien” Almas
Rusev and Lana had a run in with Andrade Almas and Zelina Vega backstage earlier tonight. When Rusev challenges Almas to a match tonight Almas accepts.
Almas starts to control the match with a headlock. Demonstrating his brute strength Rusev lands a shoulder block. During the split screen commercial break Rusev is in control. That is until Almas moves out of the way of a charging Rusev. As Almas starts to work Rusev’s shoulder after he hit the corner post. A strong standing kick to Almas chest by Rusev. This kick knocked Almas to the ground and Rusev gets a two count near fall. After Rusev misses with the Matchka kick he quickly connects seconds later.
Together both superstars are laying in the ring Zelina and Lana attack each other. Aiden English runs to ringside to break up the fight. In the skirmish English bumps Lana. As Rusev is distracted by this Almas uses the hammerlock DDT for the pinfall victory.
AJ Styles meets Paige in the ring to sign his Summerslam contract. As we are about to learn who Styles will face James Ellsworth shows up. Ellsworth claims he will challenge Styles. Paige shuts down Ellsworth by calling him a joke. She then fires Ellsworth and calls for security. They carry Ellsworth out of the arena. Then as security puts Ellsworth down Paige literally boots Ellsworth out of the door.
Suddenly the cameras cut back to the ring. Samoa Joe attacks Styles leaving him unconscious. Samoa Joe signs the contract and will now face Styles at Summerslam.
Becky Lynch vs Carmella
Lynch tries to end the match quickly going for the disarmer twice, but Mella escapes. Carmella slides out of the ring and side steps a baseball slide from Lynch throwing Lynch into the barricade. During the split screen commercial break. Carmella controls the pace with a headlock. Then an attempted pinfall by Carmella as Lynch reverses into the disarmer forcing Carmella to submit. With this win Becky secures a title shot at Summerslam.
New Day vs Sanity
New Day and Sanity are the first teams in the tag team tournament. Winners of the tourney go on to face The Bludgeon Brothers. Xavier Woods starts off against Alexander Wolfe. Woods uses his speed to counter Wolfe’s strength. Wolfe finally catches Woods and tags in Killian Dain. Then a huge senton from Dain onto Woods as the commercial break starts. Back from break. As Woods fights off Dain in the corner. Woods lands a dropkick and tags in Big E. Then Eric Young attempts to distract Big E, bug Kofi Kingston pushes Young off the top rope. Woods tags in and hits the midnight hour for the win.
Miz, Maryse, and Monroe Sky make way to the ring for the Miz and Mrs premiere show. Maryse states with the announcement of the women’s evolution she is the one that started the evolution. A promo video starts for the new show, but it seems as if someone tampered with the editing. Then Daniel Bryan appears on screen laughing about how the footage was changed to make Miz look bad. Bryan makes his way to the ring. Two security guards stop Bryan, but he attacks security. As Bryan enters the ring. Miz throws his baby at Daniel Bryan only to reveal that it was just a doll. As Bryan is distracted Miz connects with the skull crushing finale. Miz grabs the mic and says how he would never bring his daughter to a dump like this. Miz once again plugs his new show before Smackdown Live goes off the air.
