Washington Mystics center Shakira Austin earned the Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor for games played Aug. 3-9, 2026. The WNBA announced the award Aug. 11 as Austin helped Washington extend its season-best winning streak to seven games.
Austin averaged 22.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 blocks across three Week 11 performances. She was the only WNBA player to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds during the week.
Shakira Austin Helps Washington Mystics Near Franchise Record
The seven-game winning streak is the second longest in Washington Mystics history. The franchise record is eight consecutive victories from July 31 through Aug. 17, 2018.
Austin matched her career best with five blocks Aug. 7 against Atlanta. She also recorded the second 20-point, 10-rebound and five-block performance in Washington Mystics history.
Austin led the Washington Mystics in points and rebounds three times during the week, more than any other WNBA player. She also extended her streak of recording at least 15 points and 10 rebounds to four games, tying the longest qualifying streak in the WNBA during the 2026 season.
Austin Adds Associated Press Weekly Honor
The Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor is the second WNBA weekly award of Austin27s career. Her first came June 24, 2025, and she also earned the Associated Press WNBA Player of the Week award for the second consecutive week.
Austin raised her 2026 season total to 42 blocks and became the second Washington Mystics player to record consecutive seasons with at least 40 blocks. Her latest honor is the 34th WNBA Player of the Week award in Washington Mystics history and the franchise27s second of the 2026 season.
Sonia Citron won Washington27s other 2026 WNBA Player of the Week award on June 23. The Washington Mystics now have 15 Associated Press Player of the Week honors, with Austin becoming the third player in franchise history to win the award multiple times after Elena Delle Donne and Tina Charles.
