FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Salisbury University women’s volleyball defeated UC Santa Cruz 3-1 on Oct. 3 at Ron Rosner Arena to close the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Invitational. The Sea Gulls won by set scores of 25-22, 19-25, 25-14 and 25-16, moving to 11-4 and snapping UC Santa Cruz’s seven-match winning streak.
Elizabeth Gordon posted a career performance for Salisbury University with 13 kills, a .733 attack rate, three service aces and two solo blocks. Kiley McTaggart led all players with 16 kills and added seven digs, while Ellie Mitchell finished with nine kills.
Salisbury University Women’s Volleyball Takes Control After Intermission
After splitting the first two sets, Salisbury University took control in the final two. The Sea Gulls hit at a rate above .300 in both sets and finished the match with a .266 team attack rate, while UC Santa Cruz posted a .186 mark.
Sophia Tapia added seven kills and two blocks while hitting .429. Julie Altieri recorded a season-high 46 assists and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the year and 54th of her career, adding five kills and a .500 attack rate.
Defensive Effort Supports Salisbury University’s Win
Sophia Blaufuss recorded a career-high 25 digs, along with three assists and two aces. Elizabeth Villegas added 12 digs as Salisbury University held UC Santa Cruz to a .186 attack rate.
Salisbury University is scheduled to return to action Oct. 10 in the Battle of the SUs Tri-Match. The Sea Gulls are scheduled to play at Stevenson at 11:30 a.m. and at Susquehanna at 3:30 p.m.
