Salisbury University women’s soccer opened its 2026 season with a 3-2 loss to Washington Col. on September 1 at Roy Kilby Jr. Stadium in Chestertown, Maryland. Washington Col. scored in the 86th minute to take the lead and hand Salisbury a season-opening defeat.
Talyn Catena Scores in First Collegiate Appearance
Talyn Catena gave Salisbury University an early lead four minutes into the match when she finished a corner kick from Samantha Root inside the far post. Catena recorded her first career goal in her first collegiate appearance, while Root collected her first career assist.
Washington Col. equalized roughly 15 minutes later and added another goal late in the first half to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Skylar Williams brought Salisbury level 13 minutes into the second half with her fourth career goal for the Sea Gulls.
Washington Col. scored the deciding goal in the 86th minute to move ahead 3-2. Salisbury attempted three shots after falling behind but could not find another equalizer.
Salisbury Records Seven Shots on Goal
Salisbury was outshot 14-13 but held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Skylar Williams and Brooke Spadin led Salisbury with three shots each, while Riley Kinzeler made one save and was credited with the loss.
Williams scored in Salisbury’s opening match for the second consecutive season. The result left Salisbury at 0-1-0, while Washington Col. improved to 1-0-0.
