Two Salisbury University student-athletes earned their first career Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Players of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 7-13, 2026. Layla Kent received State University of New York Athletic Conference Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week honors, while Sophia Blaufuss was named Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
Salisbury University announced the honors Sept. 14. Kent helped the field hockey team earn home wins over Washington College and No. 9 Messiah, while Blaufuss recorded 47 digs during the Tufts Invitational.
Layla Kent Earns SUNYAC Field Hockey Honor
Kent scored two goals on 10 shots during Salisbury University field hockey’s two home victories. Against No. 9 Messiah, she scored off a penalty corner as time expired in the fourth quarter to tie the game before Salisbury defeated Messiah 3-2 in double overtime.
Kent has eight points this season, with three goals and two assists. Those totals lead Salisbury University field hockey.
The freshman from Millington, Maryland, earned her first career SUNYAC Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week honor.
Sophia Blaufuss Receives C2C Volleyball Recognition
Blaufuss recorded 47 digs at 3.92 digs per set in her first action at libero this season. Her performance helped Salisbury University women’s volleyball go 1-2 at the Tufts Invitational.
Blaufuss set a career high with 24 digs against Bowdoin and recorded 17 digs in Salisbury’s upset of No. 21 Tufts. She also posted a .934 reception percentage for the weekend.
The junior from Frisco, Texas, earned her first career Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honor.
