Salisbury University field hockey reached No. 3 nationally, while Salisbury University football held No. 17 and Salisbury University women’s volleyball received votes in the latest Division III rankings. The rankings were released Sept. 8, with Salisbury’s update announced Sept. 9.
Salisbury University Field Hockey Moves to No. 3
Salisbury University field hockey moved up two spots to No. 3 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll, receiving 417 points. Christopher Newport ranked No. 1 with 457 points, followed by Tufts at No. 2 with 444. Johns Hopkins ranked No. 4 with 378 points, and Middlebury ranked No. 5 with 354.
Salisbury opened the season 2-0 by defeating Swarthmore 5-1 and Stockton 1-0. Freshman Ryan Lowe received the State University of New York Athletic Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week honors after recording one goal and three assists across the two games.
Salisbury hosted Washington College on Sept. 9 and was scheduled to host No. 9 Messiah University on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.
Salisbury University Football Remains No. 17
Salisbury University football remained No. 17 in the D3football.com Top 25 for Week 1 with 213 points. Salisbury was the only team in the poll that did not play during the opening weekend.
The Sea Gulls were scheduled to host McDaniel College on Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. inside Sea Gull Stadium for the annual Gold Rush game.
Salisbury University Women’s Volleyball Receives 41 Votes
Salisbury University women’s volleyball received 41 votes in the Sept. 8 AVCA/Taraflex Division III Poll. The total ranked eighth among teams receiving votes.
Salisbury opened the season 4-0, sweeping Stockton and winning three matches at the Margie Knight Classic against Drew, Muskingum and Lebanon Valley. Kiley McTaggart was named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Elizabeth Villegas received the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Salisbury women’s volleyball was scheduled to play No. 2 Trinity (Texas), Bowdoin and No. 21 Tufts on Sept. 11-12 at the Tufts Invitational in Medford, Massachusetts.
