Redskins draft quarterback Haskins with 15th pick

With the 15th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins pick Ohio State quarterback, Dwayne Haskins.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Redskins were exploring the possibility of trading up as high as number three to take Haskins. The way the draft played out allowed the Redskins to keep all of their picks and take him 15th overall.

With Ohio State last year, Haskins threw for a remarkable 50 touchdowns and led the FBS with 4,831 passing yards. The Bullis graduate has a powerful arm and can throw into tight coverage. He throws a great deep ball and stands tall in the pocket.

Mark Bullock, a writer for The Athletic, said Haskins is, “a pure pocket passer that is excellent at the LOS with protections, can progress through reads quickly and deliver passes with anticipation and accuracy.”

The Redskins have been in search of a franchise quarterback for quite some time, and fans have wondered what Jay Gruden could do with a quarterback project that he chose himself. In Haskins, the Redskins potentially get both. NFL insider, Adam Shefter, stated after the pick, “Could this have gone any better for the Washington Redskins?”

Not everyone is happy with the Haskins pick, however. Chris Cooley took to twitter after the pick, saying, “Don’t love it. Don’t even really like it. I have to come around tho. Hopefully Haskins comes in and proves me wrong.”

One of the knocks on Haskins is his lack of experience, having started only one season for the Buckeyes. His lack of mobility is typically cited as a weakness as well.

The question now becomes, what weapons will the Redskins draft to help Haskins with his transition in the coming rounds?

The Redskins have a second and two third round picks coming up on day two of the 2019 NFL Draft.
