Recap: Orioles Bats Quiet in 4-1 Loss To Red Sox

The Baltimore Orioles were defeated by the Boston Red Sox by a score of 4-1 on August 12th, 2018.With the Red Sox winning this game, they completed a 4 game sweep through just 3 days due to a doubleheader being played on on August 11th. Now, the Orioles record is currently at 35-84, while Boston moves up to 85-35.

To recap, Orioles starting pitcher, Alex Cobb, pitched for 7 innings, gave up 6 hits, 1 earned run, walked 2 batters, struck out 7 opposing hitters, but it was all for nothing as he was given the loss which brought his win-loss record to 3-15 and his ERA to 5.31. Moreover, Steve Pearce of the Red Sox launched a home run to left field to give Boston an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Later, J.D. Martinez of Boston doubled to right field which led to Brock Holt scoring on a close play at home to make the score 2-0 with the Red Sox on top in the top of the 4th. Moments later, Orioles designated hitter, Trey Mancini, hit a sacrifice fly to score Cedric Mullins which also sent Jonathan Villar to 3rd. The sacrifice made the score 2-1 in the bottom of the 8th with the Red Sox holding onto a 2-1 advantage. Afterward, Jackie Bradley Jr of the Red Sox singled to score Eduardo Nunez which gave Boston an insurance run to make the score 3-1 in the top of the 9th. Immediately after, Red Sox batter, Mookie Betts, doubled to right field which eventually led to Jackie Bradley Jr scoring to give the Red Sox a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the 9th, Red Sox closer, Craig Kimbrel, recorded the save to give Boston a 4-1 victory.

Lastly, the Orioles will take on the New York Mets in a two game series beginning on August 14th.
