Recap: Nats Fall to Cardinals 12-5
The Nats opened up a new three game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at home Monday night. That Nats were looking to get a quality start from Joe Ross, which was his first start at home since Game 5 of the 2019 World Series. Ross started out strong, retiring the first five batters on the game. But the Cardinals bats heated up, tallying 10 earned runs off of Ross. Ross final stat line was 4.1IP 8H 10ER 3BB 5K’s.
The Nats offense produced five runs, tallying seven hits. The Nats offense started scoring on a wild pitch in the 4th inning, making it a 6-1 cards lead at the time. The Nats offense was highlighted by Starlin Castro knocking in two RBI’s and Yan Gomes producing a RBI double in the 6th. Juan Soto ended his 0-11 skid with mashing a double in the 7th inning. A fun note on a rough night for the Nationals was Hernan Perez, a position player, making his second appearance on the mound pitching a scoring top of the 9th inning.
The Nats will be looking to even the series at one tomorrow 4/20, forcing a rubber match in the series final. The Nats will be sending out Patrick Corbin, while the Cardinals will be sending out long term veteran Adam Wainwright. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05PM.
