Recap: Nationals defeat Giants 4-2

The Washington Nationals held off the San Francisco Giants on Thursday afternoon in regular season action. The Nats’ record now stands at 9-8. The Giants’ drop to 8-12.

Patrick Corbin pitched a very strong seven innings for Washington. Allowing 9 strikeouts and 2 hits. Sean Doolittle, Washington’s closer came into the game and had two strikeouts, and 3 hits.

Offensively, the long ball ruled for Washington, belting out a home run by Wilmer Difo. At the bottom of the second inning, Ryan Zimmerman doubled to deep right and Soto scored. At the bottom of the third inning, left fielder Juan Soto doubled to left and Rendon scored. In the middle of the fifth inning, shortstop Wilmer Difo homered. At the bottom of the fifth inning, catcher Yan Gomes walked and Michael Taylor scored.

The Washington Nationals head to Miami for a three game series with the Marlins at Marlins Park. Pitching for the Nationals will be Anibal Sanchez.
