Recap: Nationals Comeback Falls Short as Red Sox win 4-3

The Washington Nationals were defeated by the Boston Red Sox by a score of 4-3 on July 2nd, 2018. The Nats record fell to 42-41, while the Red Sox put themselves in the win column once again as they improved their record to 57-29.

Throughout the game, Washington Nationals star, Max Scherzer, struggled to pitch around several Red Sox batters as he let up a Rick Porcello 3 RBI double to give Boston a 3-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning. Later, Boston Red Sox Center Fielder, Mookie Betts, drove a ball 430 feet to give the Red Sox a 4-2 lead in the top of the 7th. Afterward, Bryce Harper of the Nationals, added on to the fun as he hit a long home run to right field to put the Nats back into the game. However, Red Sox closer, Craig Kimbrel, locked up the game as he recorded his 25th save of the year and the Red Sox defeated the Nationals by a score of 4-3 in an offensive struggle through the middle innings.

Overall, the Nationals batters could not seem to rally together a complete comeback as they fell short to a powerful Red Sox offense.
