Recap: Morgan State (0-3) fall to UAlbany (1-2)
Morgan State dropped their third strait game to start the season when facing off with UAlbany on Saturday Night. The loss was much closer than their previous two, losing 27-30 when the clock hit 0:00. Despite showing improvement on the offensive side of the ball, it wasn’t enough to muster up their first victory of the season.
This was by far the best game of the young campaign for Morgan State quarterback Deandre Harris. He was an uninspiring 7/18 on his throws, but he had 193 yards with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also added 99 rushing yards, including a long 52-yard scamper.
UAblany senior quarterback Vince Testaverde was benched after throwing 3 interceptions, but his day was not done. He was eventually brought back into the game where he then threw his fourth interception of the game. That particular pick-off seemed crucial, as it went for 6 the other way- putting the Bears ahead in the first quarter. This would not hold.
Although it seemed encouraging that the Bears’ defense was generating turnovers, UAlbany freshman wideout Dev Holmes totaled 238 receiving yards and a touchdown. His touchdown? The go-ahead 88-yard score in the final quarter that ended up being the game winner for UAblany.
With things trending upwards on both sides of the ball, the Bears hope to start putting some quality performances together. It won’t get any easier this week, as they face the 3-0 North Carolina A&T Tigers that just crushed Gardner-Webb 45-6 over the weekend.
