Real Madrid defeats Arsenal in PKs at FedEx Field

In front of a big crowd of 52,826 at FedEx Field, Real Madrid and Arsenal put on a show in International Champions Cup action. Real Madrid overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit early in the second half to force overtime before winning in a penalty kick shootout.

Arsenal struck first in the 10th minute. After Real Madrid’s Nacho Fernandez received a yellow for handling, Alexandre Lacazette converted on the penalty kick.

Arsenal doubled their lead in the 24th minute when Lacazette fed a long range pass to Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Aubameyang went around Real goalkeeper Keylor Navas to put Aresenal up 2-0 before halftime.

Real Madrid scored twice three minutes apart in the second half to even the score at two. Gareth Bale put Real on the board after following through and rebounding a ball stopped by Emiliano Martinez in the 56th minute.

Marco Asensio, who shot that ball stopped by Martinez three minutes prior, tied the game in the 59th minute finishing off a passing exchange with Marcelo.

Real Madrid converted three times in the penalty shootout with Isco, Raphael Varane, and Vinicius Junior with the goals.
