Ravens place three more key players on Reserve/COVID-19 List
The Baltimore Ravens already injury-riddled roster continued to get ravaged by the team’s recent outbreak of COVID-19 on Wednesday when they placed three more players on the Reserve/COVID-19 List.
Offensive linemen Patrick Mekari and Matt Skura and veteran defensive end Calais Campbell are the latest Ravens players to be placed on the list since Monday joining running backs Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins, nose tackle Brandon Williams and outside linebacker Pernell McPhee.
Campbell has missed the Ravens’ last two games since suffering a calf strain on the opening series of the Indianapolis game in Week Nine. The four-time Pro Bowler is tied for the second-most sacks on the team and is an integral piece of the run game that the defense has sorely missed during their two-game skid.
In just his first season with the team since being acquired in an offseason trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he has ingratiated himself with the organization and fan base and is one of the most respected leaders in the locker room.
Mekari has proven to be the Ravens most versatile and indispensable offensive lineman since they lost left tackle Ronnie Stanley and right guard Tyre Phillips in the same game.
The second-year undrafted free agent has started three games at right guard, played half a game at right tackle, and started at center against the Tennessee Titans this past Sunday.
Skura started the first nine games of the season at center before struggles with snapping landed him on the bench this past week. He played nine snaps against the Titans as an extra blocker and has the versatility and experience with the Ravens playing guard.
It remains to be seen how far along in the recovery process Campbell is and if he would’ve been healthy enough to play this week prior to test positive for COVID but the loss of two of the team’s most experienced offensive linemen puts the entire unit in flux once again heading into a pivotal matchup against a ferocious Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive front seven.
