Ravens Fall to Bills, Lose Jackson in the Process

Hopes were high for the Ravens coming into Sunday with Lamar Jackson returning to the starting lineup after missing the previous three games with an ankle sprain. However, on the very first play from scrimmage, Jackson dropped back to pass hitting Bills defender Ed Oliver in the arm with his right thumb. Jackson quickly rushed over to the sideline where trainers covered the injury with a towel and escorted Jackson into the locker room. Jackson was orginially listed as questionable, but was later rule out as the game moved on.

The Baltimore Ravens suffered their third straight loss on Sunday as the feel to the Buffalo Bills by a final of 36-10. It was another demoralizing defeat for head coach Jesse Minter and the Ravens as it is the second straight week they gave up more than 30 points and failed to score more than 13. But even more so than the loss, the Ravens now may be without quarterback Lamar Jackson for the rest of the season.

Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley stepped in, much like he has the previous two weeks until he was eventually injured midway through the game, giving way to undrafted rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano to finish the game.

The Bills quickly took advantage of Baltimore’s offensive disarray. Josh Allen opened the scoring on Buffalo’s first possession with a 1-yard touchdown plunge, followed by a 56-yard field goal from Tyler Bass to make it 10–0. Derrick Henry briefly cut into the lead with a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but Baltimore’s offense stalled completely from there, finishing with just 52 first-half yards and 144 total yards for the game. Bass added three more field goals before the half to extend Buffalo’s cushion to 16–7.

In the second half, the Bills put the game entirely out of reach. James Cook punched in a short touchdown run following a 49-yard strike from Allen to DJ Moore, and Allen later connected with tight end Dalton Kincaid to stretch the lead. Tyler Loop knocked through a second-half field goal for Baltimore, but the Ravens turned the ball over three times total, allowing Buffalo to rack up 426 yards of offense.

The loss moves the Ravens to 4-4 on the year, their MVP quarterback has not been placed on IR, with Minter saying the injury is “potentially” season ending, but did not disclose what exactly the injury to the thumb was. The Ravens could also be without Huntley whose injury is described as turf toe, could also miss some time. This leaves Fagnano as the only quarterback listed on the Ravens roster currently. The Ravens will need to sign a quarterback ahead of Thursdays game against the Jaguars, as the Ravens look to save their season that looks to be over just eight weeks in.
