The Baltimore Ravens activated linebacker Teddye Buchanan of the physically-unable-to-perform list on Friday, after he passed his physical. Buchanan is working back from a torn ACL in his right knee that he suffered against the Cincinnati Bengals last season on December 14th, forcing him to miss the final three games of the season.
A fourth round pick in 2025, Buchanan had a break out rookie season before the knee injury, racking up 93 total tackles and one forced fumble. He solidified himself as the main starter next to fellow linebacker Roquan Smith, and should play a key factor in new head coach Jesse Minter’s defense in 2026.
Linebacker Trenton Simpson who has been getting most of the reps at linebacker this training camp with Buchanan sidelined, will return to being the next man up once Buchanan gets back into football shape. This could open up the idea of Simpson returning to a similar roll that he had last year, where he was primarily a standup pass rusher on obvious passing downs.
Buchanan will return to practice sometime next week following the Ravens first preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles tomorrow night. Buchanan will likely be limited in the Ravens joint practice against the Minnesota Vikings ahead of the two teams second preseason game next week, and it is unlikely Buchanan will play at all in the preseason. But with about a month before the Ravens kick off the regular season against Indianapolis, it gives Buchanan time to ramp up as he looks to return to where he was prior to the knee injury.
