Previewing Maryland March Madness

It feels like forever since we have had a March Madness since last year being cancelled. In a crazy year with plenty of upsets we have finally gotten back to the best time of year for College Basketball Fans. Maryland gets No. 10 seed and their updated NCAA tournament odds are currently listed at around +14000.

This year both local teams are going dancing which has local fans buzzing. Let’s dive into the madness as we’re getting ready to go.

Selection Sunday was an emotional roller coaster for many fans as they had to wait until the very end of the show to hear their name called. Many thought after Michigan State was called as a play in game that Maryland wouldn’t be too far behind. Luckily, they heard their name called as a 10 seed paired up against UCONN. James Bouknight leads the Huskies at 19 points per game. Though he has been injury prone, when he is in the lineup he is a scary player to guard. The Huskies lead the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game which also does not bode well for the Terps. UCONN does not scare you with size, but they are long and athletic. Maryland is going to have to rely heavily on their defense to stop Bouknight. To me personally, the keys are: keeping the rebounding margin within five, 45 points for Wiggins and Ayala combined, and holding Bouknight to 15 or less points.
