Possible Trades for the Capitals

With deadline only six weeks away the NHL trade block was updated today and a potential star could be shipped to Washington for a hopeful Stanley Cup win. The Caps might be first in the Metropolitan Division, but they still have a hole to fill on defense and on the third/fourth line.

With Andre Burakovsky under performing and on and off injuries he’s only had eight points in 21 games. I can see the Caps making a trade to Edmonton for Patrick Maroon, or Thomas Vanek. Maroon has put up 24 points in 41 games so far this year, but the big power forward would make a huge impact on the fourth line and penalty kill. Vanek would make a difference as a skill player who would bring veteran leadership.

Vanek has 32 points in 45 games so far for Vancouver. Vancouver is struggling and rebuilding for a much faster and younger game.

If the Caps trade for defense do not be surprised they look and bring back our old fiend Mike Green. Green is in his last year in his contract and is now on the trade block. The Caps are in search to replace Madison Bowey who hasn’t lived up to expectations. He is a -10 and has not registered a goal yet this season.

Since Green signed in Detroit he has changed his game playing more defensively, and was selected to the all star game for the first time in his career.

If a trade happens potential line could look like.

Ovie-Backstrom-Oshie
Vrana-Kuznetsof-Wilson
Connolly- Eller- DSP
Stephonson-Beagle- Vanek/ Marron

Carlson- Djoos
Orlov-Niskanan
