O’s acquire OF Peyton Burdick from Miami Marlins for cash considerations

The Miami Marlins dealt 26-year-old Peyton Burdick to the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations on Wednesday afternoon.

The outfielder hit .182 with two doubles, a homer and two RBIs in 14 games for Miami. Burdick played all three outfield positions and also recorded one stolen base. He began 2023 in Triple-A Jacksonville and had an amazing start. Burdick had a batting average of .293 with 10 home runs and 24 RBI. He also showcased his speed with five stolen bases in 25 games. He was called up to the major league club on May 3 and played with the Marlins until May 23. Burdick would spend the rest of the season in Triple-A and finished with a .219 average with 24 home runs and 74 RBIs.

The Marlins selected Burdick with the 82nd pick in the 2019 first-year player draft out of Wright State University. MiLB.com named him an Organization All-Star, and he was the Midwest League Player of the Month in August 2019. The Marlins named him the minor league Player of the year and Pensacola Most Valuable Player in 2021. Burdick made his major league debut on August 5, 2022, and has played in 46 games for Miami.

The Orioles placed right-hander Felix Bautista on the 60-day injured list to make room for Burdick. Bautista suffered a torn UCL on August 28, 2023, against the Colorado Rockies.
