Orioles lose fourth straight

Chicago — The Orioles lost their fourth consecutive game Monday evening, dropping a 5-3 decision to the Chicago White Sox.

White Sox designated hitter Yonder Alonso broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 2nd, connecting on a two run homer off Orioles starter John Means (L, 3-3).

Orioles catcher Pedro Severino answered with a solo home run in the top of the 3rd off Chicago start Manny Banuelos (W, 1-0), bringing the score to 2-1.

Means, though, allowed another two-run homer in the bottom of the 3rd, this time off the bat of shortstop Tim Anderson.

Means allowed four runs on six hits in his five innings of work.

Baltimore would cut the lead to two in the 6th, when first baseman Chris Davis singled to left field scoring left fielder Dwight Smith, Jr.

Davis, though, was thrown out at second attempting the stretch the single into a double.

Chicago tacked on a run in the 7th inning when left hander Tanner Scott walked right fielder Ryan Cordell with the bases loaded.

Davis collected another RBI in the 8th, duplicating a single that scored Smith, Jr. However, that would be all the Birds could push across the plate.

With the loss, the Orioles fall to 10-20 on the season.

The O’s and White Sox will meet again tomorrow night. Andrew Cashner (4-1, 4.18) will start for the Orioles while Chicago will send Ivan Nova (0-3, 8.42) to the mound.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 pm EDT.
