Orioles claim catcher Severino from Nationals

The Baltimore Orioles have claimed catcher Pedro Severino off of waivers from the Washington Nationals. The 25-year old Dominican Republic native has slashed .187/.273/.287 in 213 plate appearances, all with Washington.

Severino played 14 games this spring with the Nationals. He had a .429 batting average with 9 hits in 24 plate appearances. He will likely start the season with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.

The Orioles have designated Stevie Wilkerson for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
