Orioles begin series against Yankees with doubleheader action: Game Preview 8/12/19
The Baltimore Orioles will begin their four-game series against the New York Yankees in the Bronx with doubleheader action.
The team is coming off a series loss to the Houston Astros, winning the final game thanks to a walkoff Eutaw Street home run by Rio Ruiz.
Today, the Orioles will participate in a day-night doubleheader against the first place Yankees, with the first game set for 1:05 p.m. ET, followed by the second game at 7:05 p.m. ET.
A series of roster moves were made before today’s contests. The team has recalled RHP Evan Phillips and RHP Jimmy Yacabonis from Triple-A Norfolk. Yacabonis will serve as the 26th man for the doubleheader.
Former Giants LHP Ty Blach also has a locker in New York for the Orioles, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN. Blach is on the taxi squad and will be recalled for game two. Once in the game, Blach will be the 52nd player used by the Orioles this season and will wear No. 53.
The pitching matchup for game one is RHP Gabriel Ynoa (1-6, 5.57 ERA) for the Birds and LHP James Paxton (7-6, 4.40 ERA) for the Bronx Bombers.
Thing to keep an eye on:
It is no secret that Hanser Alberto has destroyed lefty pitching this season for the Orioles. Let’s see if his hot bat will continue batting leadoff and facing The Big Maple, James Paxton, who is known to struggle in the first inning.
