No. 5 Salisbury University Women’s Field Hockey Team opened the 2026 season with a 5-1 victory over Swarthmore College on Sept. 1 at Sea Gull Stadium in Salisbury, Md. Morgan Davis scored twice, and Salisbury improved to 1-0 after building a three-goal third quarter.
The game remained scoreless through the first quarter before Davis put Salisbury ahead with assists from Ryan Lowe and Layla Kent. The Sea Gulls led 1-0 at halftime after outshooting Swarthmore 9-0 in the opening half.
Salisbury Pulls Away in Third Quarter
Salisbury scored three times in the third quarter. Alex Kupper and Tessa Gray found the net, followed by Davis adding her second goal. Lowe assisted on the first two goals, while Devon DeGregory and Kelly Webber assisted on Davis’ second goal.
Anna Schwartz scored Swarthmore’s lone goal in the third quarter. Layla Kent responded with her first goal as a Sea Gull in the fourth quarter to complete Salisbury’s 5-1 victory.
Sea Gulls Hold Statistical Advantages
Salisbury outshot Swarthmore 21-4 and held a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. Salisbury also earned eight penalty corners compared with two for Swarthmore.
Davis scored twice on two shots on target. Kent recorded five shots, including three on target, while Baylie Williamson posted four shots with two on target.
Lowe recorded three assists in her Salisbury debut. Freshman Maddie Castaneda earned her first career win during her first career start in goal and made two saves, while Kaitlin Cashman also saw time in goal.
What Comes Next for Salisbury Women’s Field Hockey
Salisbury is scheduled to return to action on the road against Stockton University on Sept. 6, 2026, at 1 p.m.
