Nicholas Clarke Scores Twice as McDaniel College Men’s Soccer Team Defeats Goucher, 2-0

BALTIMORE, Md. — Nicholas Clarke scored both goals, including the game-winning goal in the 77th minute, as the McDaniel College men’s soccer team defeated Goucher, 2-0, Sept. 16 at Beldon Field.

The victory extended McDaniel College’s unbeaten streak to five games and improved the team to 4-0-1. McDaniel College also earned its first road win of the season in its first road game, while Goucher fell to 3-1-2 and suffered its first loss in six games.

Nicholas Clarke scores twice to lead McDaniel College

Clarke opened the scoring in the 17th minute with an assist from senior Charlie Olson. The goal was Clarke’s fourth of the season, while Olson and Clarke each have totaled 10 points through five games.

Clarke then scored his fifth goal of the season in the 77th minute to give McDaniel College the lead for good.

McDaniel College held a 5-1 advantage in shots during the first half and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime. Clarke has scored at least one goal in three of McDaniel College’s five games this season.

Goalkeepers keep the match competitive

Goucher goalkeeper Dino Gesamondo made seven saves, including a penalty-kick save on Olson just over one minute after Clarke’s first goal. Gesamondo made five of his seven saves in the second half.

McDaniel College first-year goalkeeper Gavin Yartymyk made one save. He remained unbeaten in four starts with a 3-0-1 record.

McDaniel College opens Centennial Conference play Saturday

McDaniel College will host Washington College Saturday at the Soccer Complex at 3 p.m. for its Centennial Conference opener.
